IT was more Old Spice than Sporty Spice as a band of hairy Islanders charged through St Helier.

The 13 runners were taking part in the first charity Drag Race to raise money for local charity Victim Support, which provides counselling and assistance to the victims of crime.
Little Bo Beep lined up against a WPC and a bride as they went under starter's orders in the Royal Square at 5.30 pm to the astonishment of those enjoying after-work drinks. Just to add to the fun, the runners were given make-up to apply as they sprinted between Boots and Royal Square.

PBS were proud to donate £500 towards the first three prizes, consisting of a Laptop Computer, an I-Pod with surround speaker system, and an I-Pod. Two members of staff took part in the race, Gavin Douglas (Sporty Spice) and Ryan Vardon (Little Bo Peep), and between them raised a staggering £400 towards the charity.
It was all the idea of Julie Cubbin, a volunteer at Victim Support. She said that the inaugural Drag Race had been so well received that she and her colleagues at Victim Support had decided to hold it again next year.
